WHAT IS CARBONCROP?

What we actually do

More than carbon. More than forestry.

More than one farm at a time.

The name does not help us

Most people assume CarbonCrop only registers farmers for the ETS, one farm at a time, in return for a share of the credits.

It hasn't been true for a while.

WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS

A software platform for land use change and forest restoration at landscape scale, built around key questions:

  1. What is actually on this land?

  2. What could be on it?

  3. What is that worth?

  4. Has it happened?

The platform combines satellite and aerial imagery, AI-driven forest detection, and remote sensing to show you what is on the land, what's changed, what the options are, and what they're worth - at any scale, without a site visit.

THE QUESTION IT ANSWERS

What is actually out there?

What vegetation is on that land? Is any of it eligible for registration?

What could you plant, and where? What would that earn? What would that cost?

Which landholders should we prioritise? Why?

What has actually been planted? Where? What's the evidence?

What on-farm removals can we account for across this supply chain? How do we verify them?

CarbonCrop answers those questions on your land, across your project or catchment, and through your supply chain - with your numbers, without a site visit.

The platform shows you what you have, what you could have, what it is worth, what your options are - and what's actually happened on the ground.

WHO IT'S FOR

CarbonCrop works across the restoration ecosystem - with catchment groups and regional councils coordinating planting across multiple farms, with carbon project developers managing ETS portfolios at scale, and with primary sector enterprises tracking on-farm removals through their supply chains.

2020

Founded in Nelson in 2020 as a spin-off from the Nelson Artificial Intelligence Institute.

WHERE IT STARTED, WHERE IT'S GOING

CarbonCrop started as an ETS registration tool and grew into something considerably larger.

ETS registration remains a core capability - including the measurement and monitoring infrastructure that now underpins voluntary carbon arrangements between corporate buyers and landowners. The ETS brought us in. The broader problem kept us there.

CarbonCrop continues to evolve, and the boundaries of what it can do at landscape scale are still being tested. The problem it is trying to solve - getting the right trees in the right places, at a pace and scale that actually matters for New Zealand's landscapes - is not a finished project.
