Glenhope Station,
North Canterbury

Our journey to carbon farming hasn’t been easy. It was something we’ve been trying to do for a while. Some of the struggles out there was finding the right information and the right people to make it happen.

There’s a lot of consultants out there that say they know what they’re doing but we found out otherwise, that not everyone is telling the right things at the right time. Then we met CarbonCrop."

Setting the scene

"Glenhope is a 10,000 hectare pastoral lease station. It's got a lot of forest on it, a lot of manuka, kanuka, matagouri, and a lot of scrub on it. It's very rugged terrain. We have roughly 600 head of cattle, 200 velveting stags, bees in the summer, up to about 1,000 hives, probably about 100 sheep just for weed maintenance, and a tourism business."

Getting to today

"Our journey to carbon farming hasn't been easy. It was something we've been trying to do for a while. Some of the struggles were finding the right information and the right people to make it happen. There are a lot of consultants out there that say they know what they're doing, but we found out that not everyone is saying the right things at the right time. And then we met Carbon Crop.

Once we applied for a land assessment, CarbonCrop mapped the farm for eligibility. We received a report which told us 'this is how many hectares of forest could be eligible, this is what it's worth and what that might mean for you in the future as well'. All for free.

Then they got straight into it. There was a plan in place and it all happened pretty quickly. They started doing the work, we knew where it was going and we had information. We knew what it was worth and how we could move forward."

The best thing about CarbonCrop is that there's no financial outlay. They only start earning money when you start earning money, so it's a win-win.
